A building technology course project detailing a public theater.

Approach

This course focused on technological integration across multiple scales in the built environment. Given a site in Red Hook, our team was asked to respond with a program and design for a theater including environmental, structural, and envelope systems. The project proposed a blackbox theater with exposed structure, flexible seating, a public lobby, upper-level offices and workspaces, and a rooftop restaurant.

Through a detailed exploration of zoning, building codes, lighting and stage requirements, and an economic proposal for the programming of the space, we sought to integrate the architectural design with the many layered systems required to construct a building.
